IPv4 and IPv6

IP vversion 4 is the standard 4 octect addressing scheme in use on the internet today but is limited, to an extent,in the amount of hosts it can provide

IP version 6 is the new standard which is already supported by Windows XP. Its give addresses to billions of hosts. IPv6 addresses are 128-bit identifiers of form x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x

eg of IPv4 address is
eg of IPv6 address is  124:ae:54:98:5ce:0:8:800
