How to enable SAP type-ahead?

The problem is i cannot enable the type-ahead function within sap r/3. This should allow me to choose from previously entered data during typing in something with the same beginning.
It is similar to MS AutoComplete, but in this case only the rolldown box appears, text will not be filled out.

I tried all menus, and setups are the same just in case of those workstations that have this feature working.
This may seem easy. But it's not.

Maybe it is a misfunctioning Windows setup? (btw, i also tried with enabling/disabling AutoComplete in IE, but it also did not work).

Thanks.

Hey Halixol - Have you reviewed OSS Note 199527, if not give this a try.  Let me know if that does not work.

Unfortunately, i am treated as a loser-user. I do not have the rights to have a look at oss notes. All sensible transactions are blocked by the system operator who is not willing to cooperate in this subject.
It would be nice to have a look at that note, or have a solution which is independent from these unauthorized transactions.
It is probably a Windows-bug, as my SAP was installed from the same CD, with the same options (automatic installation) that those who have this feature working. Though, some files were not even on my PC that others had. (saplocalxxx.mdb, or xxx000.id).
If you could send me that note, or find a solution that evades the unauthorized transactions, that could help.
Thank you.

Hey Halixol -  I have cut and pasted the OSS note for your review.  If it is to hard to read, send me your email address and I can send it in word format.

Symptom
Since frontend Release 4.6C, an input history is available. However, this is not displayed or there is information required.

Additional key words
History, option dialog, input field, input history

Cause and preconditions
A number of prerequisites must be fulfilled for the input history to be displayed
In order to operate the history, DAO must be installed on the PC. DAO (Direct Acces Object) is a part of von Microsoft Windows or Office.

You must have logged on to Windows with a user name.
The host must have a name.
Office 95 must not be installed.
Make sure that the Low Speed Connection is not set for the connection to R/3. See Note 161053.
If the low speed flag is set, a corresponding warning message is issued in page "Local data" in the option dialog. For this purpose, file SAPOPTIO.OCX must be installed at least with version 1311.
In R/3 Release 3.1i, the history does not work in TableControls since no field names are submitted here.
Solution
If no input help exists, execute the following steps:

1. Check, whether DAO is installed

DAO basically consists of the following components:
DAO350.DLL / MSJET35.DLL / VBAJET32.DLL / EXPSRV.DLL
As of SapLocalDB.dll version 4630.4.0.6 (4.6C) or 4640.2.0.7 (4.6D), the following components will be supported as well:
DAO360.DLL / MSJET40.DLL / VBAJET32.DLL / EXPSRV.DLL
They are installed with Office 2000. If possible use DAO 3.5 because it has already proven to be effective for some time.

The files must be available as compatible versions, thus for example, MSJET35+DAO350 but not MSJET40+DAO350. Register msjet*.dll and dao*.dll with the "regsvr32 xy.dll" command on the Windows command line.

Problems of this type can often be solved by downloading file

dao35.zip from sapserv directory

/general/frontend/sapgui/win/DAO

and installing it. You can also use DAO 3.5 with DAO 3.6 already

installed, since the two versions are independent.

Problems repeatedly occur when using a terminal server because the

files cannot be read by all users. You can find these errors when you

use the 'filemon' program (downloadable from www.sysinternals.com) at

the start of the Gui.

If you have to log errors like ACCESS_DENIED that appear when you access

dll files, then the administrator has to correct the access

authorization of the file.

2. Check options

You can set the history options in the option dialog of the frontend under Local Data.
a) Expiration time specifies, when entries are considered obsolete and can be deleted.
b) The maximum file size of the database stored locally must be greater than 0, because otherwise no history is available.
c) The maximum number of entries specifies how many values per input field should be stored. Numbers between 1 and 20 are allowed values. In older versions of the history, invalid values cause the history to be shutdown. A default value is used in the new versions.
d) The history is stored in the directory for local data. This directory must exist and you must be able to write to it.

Option changes become active after restarting the frontend.
e)
3. If no history is generated...
a) Check whether files with the names SapLocal<user_name>Data.mdb and SapLocal<user_name>Data.ldb exist in the directory entered in the options. Delete them and restart the frontend. Existing entries in the history are unfortunately lost.
b) Open the version information in the frontend, by choosing "Customizing of local layout" in the toolbar and selecting "About...". Choose "Loaded Dlls" and search for the following or similar entries:
C:\Program file\SAPpc\SAPGUI\saplocaldb.dll
C:\WINNT\System32\MSJET40.DLL or MSJET35.DLL
C:\Program files\Common file\Microsoft Shared\DAO\dao360.dll
or dao350.dll.
If you do not find these entries, check as descibed under 1) whether the files are available and registered.
c) Create a trace

in GUI 4.6D:

Start regedit and open the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SAP\SAPGUI Front\SAP Frontend Server\ LocalData. Create a new "DWORD Value" with the name DBTraceLevel and value 1.
Insert the following entry into the front.ini file in the Windows

directory:

[Trace]

Mode=7

File=C:\temp\front.trc.

These settings are activated once the frontend is restarted. When you have created the trace file, the trace can be deactivated again by setting Mode=0.

In Gui 6.10/6.20:

Insert the following entry into the sapfront.ini file in the Windows

directory:

[Trace]

Mode=0x00000307

Components=Local DB

Then make sure that the trace is turned off in the options dialog since otherwise the settings from sapfront.ini are not used.

These settings are activated once the frontend is restarted. When you

have created the trace file, the trace can be deactivated again by

setting Mode=0.

Thanks for your help. Though i could not make the proposed changes (some dll-s need the cooperation of that system operator...), i feel pretty sure about that this is the solution.
A deal is a deal, so i accept your comment.
Thanks again.
