linux updation

i have problem while rebooting,some system files are crashed.
it ask me to recover filesystem using fsck but that file
does not exist.
so does it means that the whole system is creahsed.
so plz tell me to recover the file system.
i have one question,if i update the linux system then does it will erase my whole data on the system,
rightnow my web base product running on that system so plz tell me how to recover the system.

If fsck is located in some strange place you can find it using the find command:

find / -name 'fsck'

If you don't manage to get into your old system and you have another hard drive you can install another linux there and try to mount the the old disk and save the data.
