unable to boot to windows cd after hard drive format

After clearing a lock in the autoexec.bat file on a friends computer, the system still would not boot into windows. We reformatted the hard drive, but the system will not respond to the 98 system restoration cd. I had made a back-up copy of the windows 98 start-up on a floppy, but the option of booting with the cd didn't work, and gives me the dos A: prompt.Checked the bios, tried setup--nothing seems to work, and I am at a total loss as to what to do next. I am a network technology student (ccna), but don't have the skills to conquer this problem on my own, and am extremely frustrated. PLEASE help! Used an emergency McAfee start-up disk to check for viruses---none there.

email me at clint_c35@hotmail.com, ill send you a dos cdrom driver, and instructions for loading it from config.sys, and you will be able to setup windows from dos after booting from a floppy.
win98 boot floppy should give you the 'start with cdrom support' option if it dont then goto www.bootdisk.com and get an updated version
