hi
u need to first learn how to use the winsock control..

http://www.geocities.com/alpha_productions2/vb_winsock.htm

http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=30413&lngWId=1

u then need to learn how to access files in binary mode, reading and writing

http://www.profsr.com/vb/vbless08.htm

http://www.vbinformation.com/tut-file.htm

this should get u started..

just curious...
is your main aim to transfer directories, or to do it using winsock ??
if all u want to do is transfer directories, and if both the pcs are runnng windows (also possible if they are linux, or one is linux and the other windows, but i don't know how), u can share the folder on one pc and by typing in
\\ipaddress
of the first pc in the second pc (in windows explorer), access that folder from the second pc.
