Deskjet 850c poor black print at end of page

Hi all
I have a problem that HP tech support cannot answer or even suggest a solution to. ( They're ignoring me now :) )

The last two lines of, for example a page of text are faded- as if the ink is running out. However, the rest of the page is usually printed at the usual standard.

It's as if it goes into some super-fast draft mode...

I printed 3 pages the other day, the last 2 of which were illegible.

I've replaced cartriges, cleaned and followed usual suggestions to no avail.
Pls help!

Win 2k pro. Parallel connection. Standard driver ( as advised by HP )

Regards,
D.

ASKER

examples,
1)For one page :I print a page of text with say, 40 lines on it. The first 38 lines are ok, the last two are streaked.

2)The following only happened once, but i only tried it once. I printed a 3 page document. The first page was as described above, the second and third pages were illegible. Pages 2 and 3 were printed very quickly and as if in draft mode. But I repeat, none of the text on page 2 or page 3 could be read.

hope this makes it clearer.
