Windows Protection Error help asap!!!!
A user at work installed some franklin planner software which for some reason, screws everything up on these computers.... they aren't exactly the orginal win98, but close enough so treat it as it is.
at first, it would come up with an error during bootup, just after post, complianing about the win.com, for some reason it was looking in the wrong place for it, so i pointed that to the windows directory and it started working again. Then after it was rebooted, it would flash up saying "unable to load nios.vxd" (about) and automattically reboot itself...
i copied that file to the root directory for some reason... and thats where i am now and can't get any further
the error message is as follows....
"While initializing device NIOS:
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer."
and thats it anyone have a clue??
please help asap!!

Try restoring the registry to an earlier copy and see if that helps. Boot to a DOS prompt or to a Win98 bootdisk, at the prompt type "scanreg /restore" and choose a date from before the software was added.
my thoughts: PAQ/no refund
