USB Woes

I have a PC with a USB CF/SM/MMC (IE 5 in 1) style internal Card reader which attaches to the 2nd USB header on my motherboard. However I am experiencing problems with it, as sometimes when I insert a card the card fails to be read and hangs my PC (Which is running Win2K). Could this be a problem with my USB header (IE Replacement MB), or is it more likely a software problem?

Any thoughts

It sounds more like a software problem.  Plug it into the other USB port to see if that makes a difference.  Also uninstall/reboot/reinstall the driver for the reader.

slink9,

I'll try the driver first (+check for updates). As unplugging it proves difficult as I'll have to go inside my PC.

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know how it goes.

If you can download a newer driver from the manuf web site it may give you better results.  Make sure it is designed for your OS.

Appologies for not replying back sooner slink9, I still have the same problem. I have tracked it down to a IRQ conflict, and in all fairness I'm going to raise it as a new one and award you the points for this one.
