This has been an issues since the dawn of front page i belive. I am working on a web site and i do not have enough time to get an operating perl or IIS search engine running, so i have resorted to Front Pages built in crap. I say crap because thats just what it is. Why did they go cheap with their search engine here? Anyways, the way ti is set up now, i have tables and this search is in one of the tables. Now when you make a new page and add the search web component, and after publishing, the search will post the results in the same page, using the shtml.dll security file etc. etc. What I need here is to have some way to display the results in a new page, or at least clear the current page and display the results fresh, so that they do not crap up the current page the search is on. Is this possible? Otherwise i guess i'm going to try to figure out IIS and Index Server, or install php or perl, but i would just like to keep this minimal and use front pages bult in search.

Thank you all,

-Steve

Check out this script:

http://www.webwizguide.info/asp/sample_scripts/site_search_script.asp

It is very easily manipulated into your own template.  I use it ona a lot of sites with no problems.  You do not need to know ASP or anything to use it.  Make sure to add _vti_cnf as a folder not to scan.  As long as your site is not that big, you should not have a problem.

That seems like a nice script, but i need to specify a few things here.

Given what has happened with layoffs in our company, I have little to no control over the server and what I can and can not install. i would like to get on Index Server, or Perl, or PHP to get a good search working, but this is not happening anytime soon. In the meantime, I can install and operate an ASP search engine. I have been hunting but can't seem to get what I need. So, here are some more specs as to what I have and the requirements.

I have a deadline for myself by the end of this week, but that may get extended. If not, I may up the points here considerably.

I am running on an NT 4.0 box with Service pack 6a. I am using IIS 4.0, with vbscript 5.0. Otherwise most everything is standard.

Thank you to anyone who can provide a good script.

With using the script linked above, I get it on and configured, but It times out when searching. I do not have alot of files either, I think only about 50. Thoughts or other ideas?

Just curious - did you try it also without adjusting it - or have you adjusted it yet?  I have one web site with about 2,000 - never had the time out happen to me.  Did you also try the older run as well to see if you get the time out?

I am going to try the older run, but it works with the new run, i just need to have folders placed in the barred config section for it to work. I guess it hangs on certain files i have in this one folder. I am going to do more testing. I have only adjusted it a little for folders and files.

Ah yes.  I do like that script.  It does require some tweaking on the files / folders.   Also make sure that if you ahve any "hidden" files - to add them as well.

Ok after getting it all setup, it does what i need except search through pdf files. This is not AS crucial, but could have helped. None the less the points go to you. Thank you,
