Can you post the command line you're using to do this, cuynen?

The sheets, huh?  Are you doing anything to rename them besides

RightClick > Rename

?

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

I insert a new sheet: right-click existing sheer --> Insert... --> Worksheet

to rename: double-click sheet --> type '#' --> enter

Excel changes the name of the sheet to '.xls]#'
if I try to change the name of the sheet again Excel rejects it (says something like: - more than 31 characters, invalid characters or empty string)

Better do the regedit on your Excel, cuynen:

www.theofficeexperts.com/excel.htm

See the regedit under Troubleshooting Excel.

actually the solution is quite simple:

the name of the file contains '[' and ']' which are characters that have a special meaning in Excel

after renaming the file I can name sheets like I want

still weird that the default sheet is still named 'Sheet1' though
