Intermittent 0x0000000A on multiple machines

On multiple machines with Windows NT 4.0 service pack 6a and all updates I am getting a stop: 0xA.

ex. 1
stop: 0x0000000A (0xE234C000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8010934B)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address 8010934b has base at 80100000 - ntoskrnl.exe

ex. 2
stop: 0x0000000A (0x0000003F, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x80108F92)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address 80108f92 has base at 80100000 - ntoskrnl.exe

ex. 3
stop: 0x0000000A (0x000000CB, 0x0000001C, 0x00000000, 0x801175AF)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address 801175af has base at 80100000 - ntoskrnl.exe

This is happening 2/3 times a day to 2/3 times a week on around 4 Dell Precision 420 and about 5 or 6 Dell Precision 530.  This started happening about 4-5 weeks ago (before I started working here, so I don't know if any new software was installed at the exact time) and they all started happening together making me think that it isn't a memory or hardware issue.  Both re-imaging the drive with ghost and rebuilding the system from scratch appears to slow the blue screen for a couple of days but then they are back again.

I'm nearly at my wits end trying to find the cause of this.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
(sorry its only worth 75 points, I would put more if I had any)

1) Check for IRQ conflicts in Winmsd.

2) Get the latest BIOS and hardware drivers !

3) reapply sp6a and patches after this.

I hope this helps !

I was just informed that it is not just the 0xA errors we are getting.

ex. 1
stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x8010A727, 0x00000000, 0x0049003B)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Address 8010a727 has base at 80100000 - ntoskrnl.exe

ex. 2
stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xA00C348D, 0x00000000, 0x00000042)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Address a00c348d has base at a0000000 - win32k.sys

ex. 3
stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xEB4433D5, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Address eb4433d5 has base at eb440000 - npfs.sys

I have no idea what these errors commonly point to, but I hope they can help narrow down what has been happening.

Try to get the latest fix from Dell. Most of those stop errors refers to hardware/software incompatibility problem.

I have had this problem several times on difference machines. I have noticed It was when I used Windows Update from the ms website. It was beening cased from a couple of things. First make sure the video drivers and nic drivers are up to date. Then check the hard drive it may be on its way out. Then run check disk. If the problem persists I have had to re-install the os from jump street. If the HD is ok do a low level HDD format then reload the os. Check with Dell for Reformating Questions.

Roelaux,
I already have tried a low-level format and re-install, and the blue screens still happen.

Sysexpert,
I have the latest BIOS and drivers for the machines, and i plan on checking for IRQ conflicts tonight after the users leave for the day.

thanks,
  Ray

roelaux,

all that i've done with the memory has been reseating.  I had the impression that since like 9-10 computers at the same time started having the blue screens that it wouldn't be a hardware problem.

all,

thank you for your help with this problem.  my boss did something on friday that seems to have fixed this problem.  he built a new image from scrath, using a different install process than normal, (i think he might have not installed all of the normal software, but he didnt give me any details yet) and he re-imaged the worst of the computers (was having at least 2-3 a day) and it has not yet had another blue screen.  so we'll let this trial run for another few days and then bring the image down on the rest og the computers.

thanks again,
ray

all,

my boss said that the only difference in what he did was the way he installed windows.  we had been using the dell resource cd to install the OS.  on the system he has working, he installed NT directly from the cd and used only drivers he downloaded.  he did not use the dell cd for anything.  i don't know if this would have anything to do with the blue screens, but it is the only thing he changed.

Sounds like a resonable explanation to me, you have been active in your question, so I see no need to further delay the refund of the points.  PAQ'd and all 75 points refunded.

FYI- we have had this problem in our office, and it turned out to be a faulty Microsoft patch - Q328310.  We uninstalled the patch, and this stopped the errors.
