I just got this older g3 computer.  It has the network card already installed in the computer.  When I try hooking it up to my hub, no light comes on for that slot.  How do I know if this network card is working or enabled orhooked up?

Thank YOu

Is it the built in ethernet port or an extra PCI card someone added? In your System Profiler app does it show an extra ethernet PCI card? Does it show the network interface in the first tab?

Simple, centralized multimedia control

Ok good. Now, i want you to FIRST get a non-crossover cable that is VERIFIED to be in working order. Run it between the machine and the Hub. Any link lights? If not, give yourself a fresh system install. Missing software, especially on a second hand computer, is a big problem.

I have to get the software from my company that gave me this computer.  Do You want me to reinstall the whole computer or try to install just the network card?

Thank You for your help.

It isnt a network card. The ethernet port is built onto the motherboard. You could try just installing the network software parts but i really wouldnt recommend it. It HIGHLY recommend giving any machine gotten 2nd hand a complete wipedown and redo. You just dont know what's missing.
