Problem reinstalling Wacom Graphire tablet

I'm running win 98 2nd edition OS. After contracting a virus I had to format the hard drive and got outside help to set up the system.  I'm now trying to reinstall a lot of software.
My Wacom usb tablet seems to install ok but the pc tells me the driver doesn't install.  I've run a usb check and all seems ok.
There's an extra folder in the pc called "windows patches", so I assume the guy's thrown some extra stuff in.
I've been to the manufacturer's site and downloaded the latest driver, with no effect.
As I'm a digital artist, way behind on my deadlines, I'm desperate for help. Thanks in advance.

Uninstall everything to do with the tablet and make sure you have removed all traces of it before re-installing it. If you still have the original installation booklet check whether you should attach the tablet before installing it's driver or install the driver and then atttach the tablet. This seems to matter with many printers and scanners but I am not sure of windows-driven tablets.

Check Wacom's website for further info on above point - their FAQ's are at:

Thanks a million!  The FAQ's had the key, which I missed earlier in my haste.
Some necessary files aren't automatically installed with windows...I needed to manually install them from the cd.
I did this and also followed your other advice; happily drawing now.
