NTLDR is compressed!!!
Hi guys,
I have HP Pavilion computer came with Windows XP Home edition. Yesterday I couldn't start up the system. It gives me error message in the dos prompt: NTLDR is cmpressed, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. When I restarted, I got the same message.
I ran Chkdsk, Fixboot, and fixmbr from Recovery Console, but non of them solved the problem.
By the way, the computer has 2 partitions, C: is FAT32, and D: is NTFS where Windows xp is installed.
Any recommendation!!

Did you try running the repair option from Recovery Console?
This may be a second option:
expand d:\i386\ntldr._ c:\ntldr
from the windows CD

Non of your suggestions was successful, I deleted NTLDR and recopied it again from Windows CD, but I still get the same message.
I rang HP to get the recovery CD, I’ll receive it within 10 days, but hopefully I can sort out the problem without reset the system, because I don’t want to lose my data.

I, too own a Pavilion (7955). I was trying to retrieve a DVD program that got deleted inadvertantly. When I was instructed to restart my computer that's when I got the "NTLDR is compressed" in DOS. After many attempts and suggestions I finally called hp.
They were very nice in fact they said that this problem was a programming problem. They sent me free of charge a boot CD. I have no warranty in force yet the hp rep says it is covered by microsoft through their office.
I received the Cd and followed the instruction and got my machine up & running again. I hope this helps.
