no sound on audio cd

I own an HP Pavilion 510n with SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio device.
I have Windows XP and Mandrake Linux 9.0 installed as OS.
The sound in working properly in Widows.
In Linux I have sound everywhere except on audio cd.
I assume that I have a 3 wire audio cable between the cd drive and the sound card because it works fine in Windows.
I am a complete newbie in Linux,  therefore any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP do not need an audio cable between the CD Drive and the sound card. It reads audio as numerical data. Your HP Pavilion is probably lacking this cable. Verify if this is the case. Installing one will pobably resolve the problem.

My assumption that there was an audio cable was wrong. I've checqued and the cable is missing. I shall install one and then that should clear my problem. Thank you for your help.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.
