I have four NT Server boxes running as PDC/BDC.  My question is...can I add a 2000 server as a member server to the NT domain then later upgrade the domain by upgrading the PDC without causing any issues for the newly added server?

This added server would not need to be a DC in the future, but while I am at it could it later become one?

You can add A W2K server to NT 4.0 domain as a member server. You do not need to change anything for this server after domain upgrade.
You can also keep your old NT 4.0 member servers after upgrade your domain and change it to native mode.

yes you can add a w2k server to an NT domain, but note when it comes time to migrate to a w2k domain, upgrade the PDC first, (and run dcpromo on it)before upgrading the others (or promoting the newly added w2k box)
