Hi,

We have lotus note R5 running with lotus client with domain name abc.com (For example)

I want to create a user who should be able to download his his mails in MS-Outlook or OutLook Express at a remote location.

To achieve this I created a pop account in our domain and did not create any account for such user in Lotus Domino Server. I tried sending mail to the user and it returned back saying "No such user in abc.com" means that it is not going outside instead searching for the user locally since the domain name is same.

Somehow it did not work.  I need help!

Please let me know for more information if required.

Regards,
Ravi

You have to add abc.com to your AlternateInternetDomainAliases in your server's Domains\GlobalDomain document.

And you have to configure and start a pop3 task on Domino and addapt users Person document.

Sending the email to user.name@abc.com should result in a deposit in user's mail database.

The user itself hest to create a POP account to your Domino's internet host name.

Hi Zvonko,

After doing all these in my Lotus Domino Server. How a user will access his mail? Accumulation of users mail will take place at Lotus Domino Server or in POP3 Account at web server?

Please clarify.

Ravi

Ravi, why not set the user up as a mail user in Notes, and load the POP3 task on the domino server?  He can then use the domino server for pop mail!

Hi,

I dont wanna make domino server responsible to accumalte the particular user's mails, as we have to keep our domino server closed on weekend. And in that case the particular user will not have access to our server.

Therefore I want that his mails should get accumalated at our mail server on web for ex. mail.abc.com.

Whenever any local client sends a mail to this particular user, it should automatically be forwarded to his mailbox on the mail server which is on the web without keeping any copy at our domino server.

Ravi

That one is easy.

For this you need no Domino POP3.

Simply enter in this users Person documents in Mail tab this fields:
Mail system: Other Internet Mail
Forwarding address: user.name@abc.com

You set individually whether particular user get his mails in Notes mail database, Internet Account or both.

The upper setting is for Internet Account mail receipt.

Good luck,
Zvonko

Hi Zvonko,

Below attached is the error message I am getting when I tried to send mail to the user after doing the settings told by you.

Ravi

This because user.name@abc.com is a valid email address on your Domino.

Please answer this two questions:
1.) Does email box exist on another mail server with this address: user.name@abc.com
2.) Is this InternetDomain one of your Domino's aliases or domains: @abc.com

Your mail is looping because your Domino sends out the mail for user.name@abc.com and get it immediately back because your Domino is responsible for domain @abc.com and has to lookup the person user.name

Please answer my two upper questions.

Zvonko,

1. No, this user.name@abc.com does exist only on our mail server on the Internet.

Actually I did not get your second question but @abc.com is being used as our internetdomain. I really do not know how do i check this whether this is our domino's aliases or domains.

If you want I can send you some snapshots which you can see and tell me. you can give me your email address. I am even ready to increase more points if you wish.

Regards,
Ravi

You need no snapshot.
That what you like to do is not possible.
How do you expect that user.name@abc.com is accessible without POP3 on your Domino?

Say to user to open any free email account on web and enter this free email address in its Person document as Forward address.

Does your company not have some other SMTP and mail box services except those on Domino?

Hi,

Yes, user.name@abc.com is existing as POP3 account in our mail server on the web. I have already put this address in the person document in Forwarding Address.

We do not have any other SMTP or mailbox services in our company except on Domino.

We are on local area network. Domino Server is a local server lying at our premises connected with WAN thru a Firewall Server. All the clients are using Lotus Notes Clients here in our company including me.

All the users are having POP3 account for ex. ravi@abc.com. At our mail server(on web) all POP3 accounts are redirected to help@abc.com. In our company we are using MDaemon to fetch mail from help@abc.com which then forwards to Lotus Domino, which is further distributed to each user in the company. All the mails get accumulated at our Lotus Domino Server (lying in our premises). No Mailbox is created for any user on the mail server (which is on the web).

This particular user works in our company but doesn't sit in this office. Earlier we gave him the option to access his mail thru HTTP. For some reasons, our company is closed on some weekends and we have to shutdown our server. For this reason he wanted to download his mails in Outlook Express/Microsoft Outlook.

After setting up what you said earlier, when I send the mail to user.name@abc.com the mail bounces back with the error I had sent you. It is actually not forwarding the mail to his POP3 account.

Zvonko, this is required urgently... Please help!!!

Regards,
Ravi

Based on your description, since you have no POP3 mail boxes, you can not resolve this issue.

Even if the mail were forwarded from Notes to your Web mail, it would then be sent back to Notes by MDaemon.
You need to have the user open a Yahoo or other accont that he can access, and forward the mail from Notes to that account.

 I hope this helps !

Hi Sysexpert

This particular user "ravi@abc.com" DOES HAVE POP3 mail box on mail.abc.com. But the problem is that whenever any user sends a mail using lotus notes in our LAN. It returns back flashing following error message:

*****************************
Your document:     Test
was not delivered to:     user.name@abc.com
because:     Maximum forwarding loop count exceeded.  Message probably in a forwarding loop. Examine Forwarding Address of intended recipient in Address Book.
********************************

I just want that if a user for ex. "subodh@ABC.com" sends a mail using lotus notes (from our Domino Server), the mail should go to POP3 Mailbox for "ravi@ABC.com" created on (mail.ABC.com). Thats all....

I don't believe, what I want is not possible.
