How to add variables to links ?

Hi,

Passing a variable say pid via www.test.com/plan.php?pid=1

And I can use the Print function to show this further down the html page, but how do I insert this variable into links on the page ?

href="https://www.test.com/cgi-bin/purchase.2c?product_id=$pid&another_variable=$another" for example, although that dont work lol
