a 98 machine can't join a domain. the user can, but a 98 mahcine can not have a machine account, like an NT/w2k/XP pro box can
use the client for M$ netowrks as the primary logon, and then in the properties of network neighborhood, click on client for M$ networks, click properties, and check the box "logon to NT network"
