asked on

sharing printer between PC & MAC

I have airport working, my mac can see folders on 2 PCs, and each PC can see folders on the mac.  (I have not tried to have each PC see the other)

The mac has an Epson 870. (USB Connection)
1 PC (win2000) has an old HP laserjetIIIP.  (serial Connection)
The other PC (Win98) has no printer connected...

Now I know I can just move the file over to the other system to print, but I'd like to use some type of networking instead...

Can you help guide me thru how to have:
the MAC print on the HP, and
the Win2000 print on the Epson, and
the Win98 print on both the Epson and the HP

...too complicated looking at all these posts...let's simplify, can I get my Win 98 machine to print on my mac epson printer...btw I never used Termianl, don't even know the Password...
Yes, but you need to install ghostscript and have a postscript-to-raster enabled PPD for the Mac.

...I don't know what ppd is...I can go to the ghostscript site and ???
Again, please understand this is a site for people that don't know what to do
...What are the steps, not sites, to enable a win 98 pc, wirelessly connected to a mac OS x 10.2.4 for that win 98 to print on an epson 870, currently connected via usb to that mac
If you dont know what a PPD is you're probably going to have a hard time getting all this to work.

Anyhow, download Gimp-Print from http://versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=15970&db=mac and install it. Turn on Printer Sharing in your sharing control panel. Follow the instructions in the Gimp-Print documentation.

downloading Gimp-print, and using this id...smb://username:password@workgroup/machine/printer enables the apple to see the hpIIIP connected to my Win2000 laptop,
