Forcing connection to a network drive

I have a problem where I am checking a user defined path to make sure it is valid, if the path is a network drive that has become disconnected, how do I force the drive to reconnect?

net use (driveletter): \\(machine)\(path) /user:(machine)\(user) password

net use z: \\(machineneme)\c$ /user:(mahine)\(user) (password)

User must have proper rights.
