Windows 200 Advanced Server - DHCP & Routing

I am running win 2k server on my main machine and win 2k pro on my laptop. I have setup DHCP so that when the laptop boots up it gets assinged an ip address from the 2k adv server.

The main machine has 2 NICs in it. One connected to my ADSL and another connected to a small switch. From the switch a cat5 cable goes into the NIC in my laptop.

I would like to set up my main machine to be a router as well as a DHCP so that the laptop can have internet access.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Do you have DHCP enable on the ROuter?
You'd have to setup "routing and remote access".
And in the DHCP put your main machine's IP adress as default gateway

The wizard for Routing and Remote Access is pretty easy to follow..

Start Routing and remote Access and rightclick your mouse button on your main machine's name, next select "Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access".

Follow the wizard, and you should be done..

1 more thing... don't forget the firewall........

Could just do internet sharing and skip routing and remote access. Might even be a little safer this way. Only down fall to this is some apps that need to directly connect to your laptop wont work such as game voice and things like that but you can remedy that even.

Just becareful when setting up routing and remote access so its not just a pass through for anyone to browse your other computer.

Easiest most secure way and if your not comfortable with routing and remote access is internet sharing and it will do DHCP for you.

Make sure that Advanced server boxed is patched.
