For AppleWorks 6.x:

If the two AppleWorks and two ClarisWorks formats are the only ones appearing in the 'Save As...' dialog, it sounds like your 'Translators' folder is missing.

On Mac OS X, check here:

/Applications/AppleWorks 6/AppleWorks Essentials/Translators/Carbon

On Classic systems, it should be here:

.../AppleWorks 6/AppleWorks Essentials/Translators/Classic

There should be these 5 files, inside one of those folders:

ASCII
EPSF
HTML
RTF
TEXT

If not, you will need to re-install AW or get them from someone.

Appleworks 5 still has multiple options. Cocoa is probably right and you're missing installed components.
