Cisco 803 connection problem with laptop........

have Cisco 803 router and GateWay laptop.......I connected the router with laptop through console able with serial port.....Help of hyperterm I can communicate with router. But through Cisco fast setup.....getting error like. not able to communicate with router check your console cable.....(same cable only using hyperterm)

I believe that fast setup will require an ethernet cable also. Use a crossover cable to connect your laptop's LAN card directly to the router's Ethernet port, and use your Hyperterm session to run the setup.

       I can able to connect with desktop pc without lan cable.

OK, what's different between the desktop and the laptop? Is the router setup in a different location? Ethernet port plugged in/not plugged in to a hub/switch. If one works, the other one should also.

yes, it should connect.....may be laptop comport setting has to chnaged...

Hyperterm should be set to 9600, 8,N,1, no flow control
