Can you please clarify your needs?

To install it, you just drag to your hard drive somewhere (i keep it in /Applications/Utilities).

Usually, if you just want to open downloaded files, it works in the background, only running when needed. Otherwise, you drag a file/folder onto it's icon, and it will stuff the object(s) and place a single file named 'example.sit' where ever the original file was.

I haven't used 8.0 in YEARS. My only other suggestion would be to search around the net for an older version of StuffIt or something. I _believe_ v5 worked w/ 8.
