We have reached the Exchange Mail Store Limit

We are running Exchange 2000 standard, this has a mail store limit of 16gb which we have reached.

We have been running the defrag utility which gets us back up for usually a day before the server crashes again.

Is there any other way of reducing the size of the mail store?

First, try to reduce the retention period. : Every time delete messages they still will ben in your store as long as there is no valid backup taken! even then the retention period is standing.

Second, If you have a good backup plugin for your exchange, make a backup every day and reduce the size of the log files! ( Which are useally a couple of 100 files wich have the size of 5Mb i think ).

But the best thing is to take two actions :

1- Why do you need 16Gb of mail for? If there is any old message's in there mailbox, they should make some archives! So : LIMIT THEIR MAILBOX!
2- if you really can't do the above, upgrade to MS Exchange Enterprise. If you need it, it is worth its money!
