FTP outsourcing

My web server almost died yesterday because so many people were DLing this freeware software that my company released.  I'm looking for a company that specializes in hosting FTP files for downloading, so that I can get this software off my server, and just set up a DL to that company.

Obviously, I would expect to pay for this service. :-)

Does anyone know of a company?

Thanks

hmm, not of hand. I'm thinking of companies providing some good disk storage for that kind of ware, but they tend to be for temporary use and I think they are for you to move files, not them.

Here's a cheap thought, how about checking out the sites that collect freeware for DL?  I'm sure since you've a bona fide product that they'd do it for free, since you'll be advertising their site by broadcasting the link to your ware.

Just find a good overall topic for it, such that it would be possible for them to list other products, whether similar or not. There's so many, tucows comes to mind, and then there's the reporter/magazine ones like pcMagazine. Schools may have something. Consider something in your local community.

Hi,

Much bandwidth do you expect this to chew up?

How big is the file(s) and how many hits per day?  If this information I can help you find some answers.

Hi,

For effective downloading of the software you have, there are two issues to consider.  One is bandwidth (how fast does the file transfer and how many people can transfer the file at the same time) and the other issue is transfer amounts (total amount of data transferred per month).

I can provide you with suitable bandwidth and low cost for the amount of data transferred, by setting you up with ftp service using our server in a collocation facility.

The facility system has 4 separate connections to the Internet to ensure that they are always up, and to reduce the number of TCP/IP routing hops between your customers and your download file(s).

For information regarding the pitfalls of so called “unlimited bandwidth sites” visit:
http://www.unlimband.com

Pricing is….
Flat fee for bandwidth of $40USD (per month)
Each Gig of data transferred is $3.00USD (billed in 1 Gig blocks per month).

If you would like to discuss more you can contact me by email at:

I did not think you were supposed to advertise for yourself here.  This seems to be against the rules.

curmudgeon:  try looking at hosting packages possibly.  Find a host that allows anonymous FTP and offers the amount of bandwidth/month (60GB from what you are saying) and get a contract with them (I would go monthly until you see how well they can handle your site).

I am curious as to what you wrote if this is so popular?  Could you tell me (and anyone else reading this) what your software is, just out of curiousity?  Or maybe a link would do :)

no one would care about this software :-) it is a demo version of what my company can do (it is a consulting company) with an industrial sites storeroom data

essentially it takes information about a storeroom item and spits out a graph showing what availability you will have at what inventory level

it is boring - trust me :-)

it got so many DLs because we had a few of our associates email blast their mailing lists about the software - unfortunately they all did it at the same time
