Unattended Installation

I have created a customised Windows 2000 CD-ROM with drivers etc and a floppy disk with the unattended config file on it. Everything works perfectly bar one thing.

Windows installs New Zealand English under language settings, but it doesn't remove US English, it also places the langage settings icon in the system tray. I don't want my users to be able to switch between languages. New Zealand English is set as default.

Is there any way that I can tell unattended setup to remove US English? If not, are their any registry settings that I can alter to remove it, or even remove the icon from the system tray?

This should help:

HOW TO: Create the Regional and Language Settings for an Unattended Installation of Windows MultiLanguage Version

Just to add to TKK's response, you can get the entire guide with every unattend switch from your CD:

"The instructions for creating the answer file are located in the "Microsoft Windows 2000 Guide to Unattended Setup" (Unattend.doc) on the Windows 2000 operating system CD. The Unattend.doc file is part of the Deploy.cab file in the \Support\Tools folder.

Or just search the web for unattend.doc.

Thanks for your ideas, but this does not solve my problem. I already know how to add and configure language settings with the unattend config file, but I want to REMOVE a language.

When Windows is installed, it always puts US English in. I can get the unattend config file to install New Zealand English no problem, but I want it to REMOVE US English.

It doesn't have to be done during the installation, as long as I can do it without having to walk around to every workstation.

This is an unattended installation from a CD-ROM, not a RIS server, so I'm not running Winnt.exe or Winnt32.exe manually with command line switches.

Just out of curiosity why would you not want users to have access to the English version? What difference does it make what language their computer is in as long as they can use it?

Good point. Ok so if I change the language it doesn't actually change date or currency settings. The system locale defines those. Hmmmm.

Not exactly the solution, but it seems that there wasn't really an issue to start with.

I think it may be possible that Microsoft keeps the English portion on all builds as a default. Meaning you may buy the Spanish or the French or whatever but there will always be an option to go to English as well. I tried to do some searching for you on this but couldn't find anything were it allowed you to remove the English option. Sorry we couldn't find what you needed.

TKK, did you check the non-English MS sites?  :)
