Won't startup

Ok.. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro. and I went to install Adaptec Easy CD creater.. it said restart blah blah blah.. so I said ok.. now it goes to the graphical startup (with colors and all..) and says "
Stop: 0x0000001E(0xc0000005,0x804918D0,0x00000001,0x00000001)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Address 804918D0 base at 80400000, Date Stamp 384d9b17-ntoskrnl.exe
"
then it goes on to say to restart in safe mode... but I can't.  I tried to repair the OS but it still does this... I can't get into any kind of dos mode to take out the cd software... it's just all sorts of locked up.... help... anyone??  I'd rather not format...

Well, here is an idea anyway.

I had a similar problem except with my hard drive boot option getting turned off when I uninstalled some drivers.  I installed another Win2K in a dual boot configuration so I could go in and modify the registry from the working Win2K system.  Kind of a backup:)  I just installed it into a different directory, i.e. WINNTBKP or something.  If you do that you can open up the registry and dig around for the culprit.

Just an idea for you.

The only problem with that is they want you to format.. like I said.. I'd rather not do that....
You can install w2k on the same volume as the 1st one - no format needed. From there you can copy your files or fix the registry...
Reinstall right over the top of it.  Your settings and files will be fine and it will fix this.  Make sure you have all of the updates installed from windowsupdate.microsoft.com before you try to reinstall EZ-cd creator, or better, buy Nero instead.  It's a much less intrusive software.
I've tried installing over it.. same problems....

I've tried installing over it.. same problems....
We are not telling you to install over it.  We are telling you to install another Win2K system in a different folder.  You will not have to format the drive at all.
And you must select the correct OS @ startup (the newly installed) - there will then probably be selection of two
ok.. I have it so that it runs and I can access things... but the first os still doesn't startup.  so I'm not considering it fixed yet...
I'm giving you an A for effort.. not what I really wanted to do.. but it was a solution.. thanks for all your help.
