I am trying to install Red Hat Linux 8.0.  The computer specs are as follows: Dell Dimension 2300, P4 1.8 Ghz, 384mb ram,  some built-in video card, 30gb HDD, Currently running Windows XP Home.  The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 151v.  When the cd boots I press enter for a normal installation.  The cd media test is fine.  Then when I hit ok to go to the installation, the screen blanks out and says "Video Mode not supported".  I tried the installation with a regular 17" dell crt and it works fine.  Previously I had used the same lcd for another linux box that I had and it worked fine.  So I don't think there's anything wrong with the lcd since it currently works fine in a windows xp environment.  I allocated 5gb for linux.  Which to me is plenty of room.  Please let me know if there are new or current problems with my monitor.

Please let me know if there are drivers I can install for my syncmaster 151v before or during the installation.

Your video card is what causes that.  You need to find out the exact video chip set so you can install the right video driver.  If you have windows running on that machine too, look at the properties of the display driver.  This will tell you most of the information you need to get it running in linux.

Red hat Linux 8.0 has a problem with the 845 intel chipset. Go to your BIOS setup and go to Advanced Video Configuration options set the framebuffer size to 8MB or above. Now install Red Hat Linux 8.0 you should not get the Video Mode not supported message.

If this does not work try installing linux in text mode. To do so boot with the linux CD, type text and press Enter.

There is no advanced video mode in the bios let alone any video mode.  What else can I do?  If linux works fine with a crt but doesn't work with the lcd what could it be?
