Hi,

I recently reformatted the computer and reinstalled the OS (Win XP pro). Firstly I dont have volume control in the system tray. When i go to accessories -> entertainment -> volume control i get a dialog saying "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to control panel, click printers and other hardware, and then click hardware." I tried going to the control panel to add hardware but no luck. The audio is integrated with the motherboard. What i know is that for audio i had soundmax software. The motherboard is an intel D845BGL/LABEBGSTD2 (Intel D845BG series).

Thanks in advance.

IF the driver doesn't work (Which it might not) then you might have a bad card. Or else you should unplug the mother board replug it and have Windows reconfigure it.

check your controlpanel/system/hardware/device manager for errors (they'll show as yellow exclamation marks) if you got an error please post what it tells you about it.....maybe you will just need the drivers....or windoze maybe will use 'generic' drivers ok but you need to goto that listing in the device manager to find out the prob and to find the 'update driver' button for each problem

WinXP needs additional driver for D845BG mainboard. You can download soundmax from snowguy's link...

Yes i had tried reinstalling the drivers. There are no exclamation marks or anything in the add hardware part. Tried updating the drivers as well. Do u think its a hardware problem?

You know what guys, i got it fixed.

It was so stupid of me, i had never checked the BIOS setup. I found out that audio had been disabled. I enabled it and it works fine. Thanks for the links and help anyways.
