There's no listener attached to the JCombo. It just flickers and you'll have to use arrow keys to navigate it. It seems this only happens in java 1.3, when I install 1.4 it's working. Has this happened to anyone else? The source is compiled with 1.4.1 with "-target 1.3" option.

No, have never seen this, but have you tried to compile it with 1.3 compiler? (If you need to run it on 1.3 envirnoment) mabe there are some changes in the combobox between 1.3 and 1.4 that the "-target 1.3" doesn't include...

Ok, i'll try that. The -target option seems to work poorly. I've tried compile like swing code with much too old version without getting any warning or error message...

I'm sorry I've taken so long. This was not the problem, I tried compiling with 1.2.2 and the same thing happens in java hotspot 1.3.1 enviroment.
Something else happened which might be related. ToolTips doesn't work either. Simple ones like:

button.setToolTipText("whatever");

works like a charm in 1.4, but arises exception in 1.3.1. Instead of the popup text I get:

java.lang.error: destination component not connected to tree...

SwingUtilities.convertPoint
convertParentLocationToScreen...

I gather it is not the tooltips themself thar causes the problem, but something in the structure of components. I have nested alot of panels...

Any suggestions?
