JAVA - FTP, Telnet and email client programs

I am doing a project which is something like FTP, Telnet and email client programs. Could I know what is the good thing about JAVA in these field. How about C++, would it be more appropriate?

Hmm, I think you would find C++ a little more powerfull for that kind of stuff.  However I have never used Java to do any type of networking, I used C, which is probably the reason for my fact-less answer ;)

You can find easy-to-use libraries for all of the above in Java...

Jakarta has a "Commons" package that will do most of the network communications protocols:
http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/index.html

And Java's core Enterprise Edition APIs have JavaMail... which is a great POP, SMTP, and other mail protocol client library.

Plus IMHO Java is easier to write in.
