*** FrontPage Extensions Server *** Am I getting crazy or stupid ???

Greetings from Belgium,

I have been using different versions of FrontPage for the last 6 years to design Web pages and I always faced the same problem; as I really am getting tired of never receiving any help from the Belgian Internet Provider's "technicians" and as I do not want to die completely stupid, I decided to submit my problem to the expertsXexchange friends!

Under miscellaneous Operating Systems (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and now Windows XP Pro), I have been using Microsoft FrontPage 97, FrontPage 2000, FrontPage 2002 and, each time, I installed the FrontPage Extensions Server and, each time also, the only applet (among the ones supposedly available after that installation) that really works is the Hovering Buttons!!! If I try to use another applet, such as the Hits Counter, it does not work! It does not work neither when I try to preview my designed page on my PC nor when it is published on the Internet Provider server (even though they always pretend that they also have the Extensions installed on their server!!!

What do I do wrong? What am I missing? Has always been the Internet Provider telling me lies? I doubt that because, if he did, it would work on my PC but not on the server (at least, that is what I think).

Could someone enlighten me on that strange problem and help me to FINALLY solve it??? As I have been carrying that problem without ever being able to find a solution, I have plan to allocate a lot of points on that question because I do think that the one who will help to find THE solution will deserve it!

Thank you to all!

It won't work when you preview -- those things require that you view the page through the server. You must publish it for them to work. You should be able to test it if you have IIS/PWS installed, but you need to make sure that the site in FP is part of the IIS/PWS web (usually in inetpub/wwwroot) and you MUST access it using http://localhost/pagename.htm -- previewing it will NOT work, using FILE/OPEN will NOT work.

You CANNOT just use FTP to copy the files, that won't set them up correctly for those features. You MUST use the FP publish.

If your hosting company/ISP has FP installed and the server extensions enabled, AND you use the publish features of FP (not FTP), your counters/etc. should work. If it doesn't, you should try publishing again, recalculate the web, and/or ask the ISP to check the server extensions for your web.

Thank you very much!!! Even the Internet Provider "Technicians" could not answer my question!!!

Now, I start understanding things better,
