i have tryed scan disk and defragmenting the drive.. can you please tell me what is wrong ?

thanks

ps i have an advent 7009 laptop

Have you verified that you don't have FindFast installed?  Ctrl-Slt-Del and see if it is listed.
Have you checked for spyware?

I'm wondering if the drive has come loose.  This would cause the noise and MAY be causing the freezing.  IS the laptop still under warranty?
The freezing may be caused by a couple of different things.
Is the file stored locally on the machine or is it pulled from across a network?
How are you trying to open the file?  IS it simple double click on the file, or is it by opening an application and then looking for it by choosing the open command?

okay.. well

it could of got knocked cause i take my laptop about with me a bit

say i am playing a game for example and it has to open a sound file.. the hard drive will make a weird click or jut i dont know what to call it and freeze just for a second, same sometimes if i just open random files like a word document just sitting on the desktop or whatever..

scan disk and defrag go all the way through and say no errors.

dont think has anything to do with find fast cause it does it even when office is not installed..

am puzzled ;p

has this problem always happened?
If not can you remember when it started, and what you may have done/installed/unistalled.

Check your "send to" menu for bogus entries, (i.e. drives that don't exist). They can cause searching whenever you launch a file read.

Sounds like the drive is enabling Power savings mode by turning off the harddrive, then when it needs a file, it has to spin back up again.  Check your Power control panel for a harddrive timeout setting.  You may have to set this from the BIOS also (Del or F1 at poweron).
