I am running Apache 1.3.22 on RedHat Linux 7.2
I use this setup for virtual hosting.
The main config file is /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
The virtual host config files are included by the
following line in /etc/httpd/conf/htttpd.con
This dir contains a number of files, each of which
is named similarly to:
Options ExecCGI SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /home/some-domain.com/www/
AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
AddType text/html .shtml
AddHandler server-parsed .html
Options Includes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
I am trying to use AuthGroup to control access to a subdirectory
under a virtual host by using an .htaccess file in the
The file /home/some-domain.com/www/
AuthName "Secure Part of Site"
require group admins
Each of these files has at least one newline by itself line at the end of the file.
I expect that ted, bob or bill can give their passwords and be authenticated,
then allowed access to the 'secure' directory.
All CGI programs are run under SuExec.
My problem is this - I cannot get AuthGroup to work.
I can get AuthUser to work easily as expected, but AuthGroup just fails.
I get NO ENTRIES in any of the logs, except the 401 in access.log
that says 'user is not authorized' (DUH!)
I have tried a number of different things and I am sure of my paths.
All config files are user group and world readable. (e.g. rwxr--r-- )
If I change 'require group admins' to be 'require valid-user' it works,
and any of these people can be authenticated.
Has anyone seen something like this before?
NSWERS__ at me, as I have spent quite a bit of time on this already.
I will ignore your response if I have already addressed it in my problem description.
