Eltron P310 printer - Does anybody know how to send a print job

Does anybody know how to send a print job to an Eltron P310 printer with encoder. I want to send a print job that contains text (so gets printed in black) has an image which need to be printed in colour, and has a number to encode into track one.
The Eltron printer is a printer for producing plastic cards such as ID cards.
Ultimitely I intend to send the print job from a Delphi app but if anybody knows how from a word doc that would be fine. I have a manual that explains how to send jobs directly to the printer but I want to utilise the driver provided as the process would be a lot easier.

Thanks for any help if anybody has some

To print from a Word doc, or any other normal Windows app, use the Windows driver. See

SOrry hdhondt I didnt really make myself very clear - I didnt actually expect anybody to answer this one! If I simply send a print job from a Word doc as if it was simply a small page it miss's a few things I need to do.
For text it seems to mix the black from the colour part of the ribbon rather than using the black panel of the ribbon. Also I want to encode a number into track two. Quite a while ago I remember sending a job from a word doc and getting it to encode a number, it involve placing certain characters before and after the number I wanted to encode, and I think also may have involved a specific font type and size but really cant remember where I got the info. As I mentioned the other part involves getting the text and barcode to print from the black panel of the ribbon and the pictures to use colour. There are several applications that allow for these settings and still send their jobs through the Windows print drivers so I shouldnt have to get into writing directly to the printer - which would be a lot of work. Any other ideas would be appreciated

It appears you want to control which ribbon is used to print and I don't think Windows printer drivers have any way to let you do that. From Word however you can include your own printer control codes, as part of the document, using the Field Code "Print", i.e. { PRINT "PrinterInstructions" }

For more information, start with Word Help under "Print field". However, you will need to know the commands your printer expects to make it do what you want. Word Help also mentions that this may only work properly with PostSCript or PCL printers...

Hi hdhondt,
I have actually stumbled across part of what I am after from the Eltron support page. It actually gives an axample app for VB which I will have to try and open so I can then convert to Delphi. Basically if you put a line ~2123 the printer reads this as encode(~) onto track two (2) the number 123. Word seemed to handle the colours and text fine so its just a matter of me figuring out what it is word sends so I can incorporate it in my app. Thanks for the advise and since you are the only person who even answered anything I am more than happy to pass the points on.
