ykoloth,

Well, first off, do NOT use the "SET UPGRADE LOW PRIORITY THREADS" command! It'll make your NetWare server run so slow you'll think you've install Windows.

Checking Novell's excellent support website (support.novell.com) and knowledgebase, I suggets you take a look at TID #10012844. This specifically references this error message on NetWare v4.11, and suggests a likely cause as a shortage of free blocks on a volume.

TID #2918618 also describes a problem resulting in this error message stemming from a Compaq with a tape drive loading a certain NLM (LQSTAPE).

There's about 50 other TIDs (search terms: upgrade priority thread") that may or may not apply to your particular situation. Its best that you visit the Novell support site and check them out.

Try taking the server down and bringing it up again.

There's a large number of possible reasons that this could happen.  I've had it happen for the first time on a server in the last fortnight.  In this case I think it was a user who did something silly with a file using Microsoft Word but I can't be certain.

Downing and restarting fixed it.

I dunno. Rebooting the server for a fix is what you do with Micro$oft products. We NetWare folx like to actually correct the problem.

Looking at Novell TID #10012844, they state that the error message is caused by some NLM complaining that it isn't getting enuf CPU time. There can be a variety of causes, and one they list specifically in association with NetWare v4 is a Volume that is low on free blocks. A reboot won't cure that (perhaps in the short term, but not in the long term).

Do you need the NLM?  Try unloading it and taking it out of your boot up.

This happen to me one time, If downing the server is necessary I suggest adding more memory, this corrected a problem with a groupwise server we were running.

I believe that I provided good troubleshooting techniques, references to TIDs, and possibly the solution. It is my opinion I should be awarded the points, or share in them should someone else have a similar position on their contributions.
