Where can I buy a copy of Delphi 3 anymore?  How much is reasonable?

Borland still sells it, even releases patches, as far as I know ;)

I can't find where on Borland's page, I can purchase Delphi 3.

Everything is focused on Delphi 7.

Your best bet is to email Borland directly and ask them.  They sure won't advertise the fact they're still selling a piece of software that' four versions old (if they still do).

I'd say the only way you'll get a legit copy is to buy it second hand, buy it off E-Bay (as SimesA pointed out), or getting it off a cover CD off a magazine (although you can get Delphi 7 on cover CDs now!).

Cheers,

Stuart

I did contact Borland, and they no longer sell Delphi 3.

I am trying to find out the oldest version they sell, and for how much.  I will not necessarily buy it from them, but it will give me a starting point on price.

I think Delphi 6 maybe the earliest version they sell, but I doubt it.  7 is the current version and they'd be pushing people to buy that.

E-Bay is going to be your best bet.  You could try ringing around some software warehouses and see if they have any copies.

Why do you want an old version anyway?

Why do I want an older version?

To save money.

I have a one-time application I'm writing.  Delphi 3 is the lowest version of Delphi that will support the 3rd party software I want to use.  I don't want to buy Delphi 7 because this would be expensive, and overkill as far as the kind of horsepower the application will require.

After this application is done I don't think we'll be using Delphi again.

Thanks,

Tom

PS:  Yeah, I'll check out e-bay!

OK!  That sure sounds like a reason to get an older version.

Is the application commercial at all?  If it's not, you can download a free version of Delphi 7 personal from Borland's web site.  The condition of use is you don't write commercial (or sold for profit) software.  There maybe more of a restriction, I'm not sure, but it maybe worth your while having a look to see.

The application will run "behind the scenes" in conjunction with a larger application.

I am writing a "bridge" between a .CSV file and our website.  The bridge will upload the .CSV file to an ASP page for processing.

This application is super tiny.  Only a few hundres lines of code.

All that said, I don't think the free Delphi 7 version would suffice.
