IIS5, SMTP, CDONTS

Hi,

I have a Win2k server (SP3) running IIS5. WWW & FTP are running fine, and both ASP & Cold Fusion are installed. Using Cold Fusion emails are formatted and sent without a problem, indicating the firewall and the mail relay is not the issue.

Every time I try to send an email using IIS SMTP and CDONTS, the email is formatted, and dropped immediately into the badmail folder. In addition, I get the following entry in the application event log for every failed email.

Event ID: 535
Description: Virtual Server: The drop directory ,for * could not be created.

What does this mean, and how can I fix it.

Thanks

IIS SMTP Server drops mails on a directory before sending them. Then it monitors this folder and when there are new files they are sent. If the mail cannot be sent for some reason then it will come back later and the mail will be stored there until sent or until timeout.

This drop folder is usually c:\inetpub\mailroot\drop\ but may differ depending on your IIS installation. Make sure the drop folder is created and that it has permissions to be written in.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the points. Glad to help :)

Just out of curiosity: Why the B grade? I'd like to know what was missing from my answer so I can improve myself in the future...
