Group Policy Issue  -Taskbar Autohide

Is it possible to use a Group Policy or Reg Entry to change the standard Windows Explorer feature to "auto-hide" the Windows taskbar? I do not want to visit each workstation, to login and select auto hide on the task bar. My users are locked down and need the full screen (no task bar, unless hovered) for a GUI emulator.

Thanks,
ZENworker

Unfortunately many of the TaskBar settings are self contained which is to say that it doesn't use the registry to house most things and the Auto Hide is one of those things that the Registry is not used.

Sorry Crazy but I think your wrong.
See for your self at this webpage:
http://www.axcentsolutions.com/technical/settaskbaroptions.asp

This person has a vbs script that will do the trick.
If you can read the script language you can see clearly how these settings are written in the registry.
You can modify the value in W2K with regedit, when you double-click:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects2\Settings
It's the first byte at the second line (0008).

The value is e.g. 02 if you have: Always on top, Show clock
The value is e.g. 03 if you have: Always on top, Show clock, Auto hide

The value has to be there before explorer starts.
So it's possible to do this in the logon script.

To see how it works you can do the following:
Open the task manager and go to Processes.
Select explorer.exe and click "End Process".
Click File| New task| regedit
Double-click Settings and change the first value on the second line (0008) to e.g. 03.
Now go back to the task manager and click File| New task| explorer.exe
You should see that auto hide is on now.

Good luck.

Thank you CrazyOne and hendrik999,
The Reg setting worked for me, but as you indicated I had to stop the explorer service and then restart it after my changes were made. So, the points go to hendrik999 thanks to both of you!
