My version of perl is Active Perl 5.8 for Windows.  I'm making use of the LWP module to make HTTP connections and have been occassionally receiving the following error message:
500 (Internal Server Error) Can't connect to (connect: Unknown error)

What I'm trying to do is to connect to a website through a proxy using the commands:

The error message is being caused exclusively by the proxy.  After receving the error message from within my script I immediately test the proxy within Internet Explorer -- the proxy runs fine.

What must i do to get LWP to handle proxy properly, and consistently?  It seems that LWP isn't interpretting the proxy name properly leading to the internal error?!?

It looks okay. Have you tried treating this particular error as a transient and just retrying after you get it?

Yes, i have retried the proxy after so many seconds.  I suppose i could wait a little longer between calls though.

Well, it's a little puzzling that LWP sees errors frequently and you don't at least occasionally see these errors when going from a browser.
