Help with Hard Drive / CD Drive installation.

I'm pretty new at installing any type of hardware, in fact, this is my first time.  Anyway, my problem is this:  I bought a new hard drive and cd drive and floppy disk drive and I had an extra motherboard sitting around.  I wanted to build a new tower.  My only problem is that I'm not sure what cables connect to what device on what part of the motherboard.  What cables/cords do I need?  What part of the motherboard do they go into?  The motherboard is an older ASUS board.  Also, my hard drive is a 40gb MAXTOR, what jumper settings do I use?  It'll be just a primary master drive.  The power cables I'm fine with, but the other stuff I'm totally lost.  Thanks for any help!
