Modem no response when dialed or when I run diags

I have an AMR modem 56k V90 in AMR slot. the system is Windows 98. The modem comes with the motherboard I ordered as in this link:


The installation was not very smooth, but I have it up.

in the control panel, when I try to run diag on this Modem, I hit "more info" button, for a few seconds, it tries to determine the speed, then it tells me that the modem is not working properly.

Not to be scared, I run the MSN, and the dial up failed, it complained about no response from modem.

I don't see any interrupt conflict, I think the hardware installation is fine. what could go wrong?

should I buy another modem? since my mother board has AMR slot, does it mean I am locked in with AMR modem?

it sounds like the modem drivers were not installed properly. Win98 did not have default drivers for this type of modem (it's a PCTEL AMR modem) I checked out the manufacturer's website and here's the link to the drivers:


You should download & extract these drivers, uninstall the current drivers and restart the computer and when it detects the modem point it to the directory you extracted the new drivers to and it should install them.

I also suggest checking out the driver downloads page for your MoBo below to get updated drivers for the other hardware on the MoBo.
