Hi,
I have never used Linux before so this may seem like a stupid question, I want to install both win2k advance server and redhat7 on my machine. I know I should install win2k first. when logged into windows I don't want access to the redhat partions and visa versa.

what file type should I use? FAT32 or NTFS

thanks

When logged into Windows you won't have access to your Linux partitions anyway. As far as access to your Windows partition from Linux, you can handle this one of two ways:

1. Dont let them mount at boot. Edit /etc/fstab and take out any line that points to your Windows partitions.

2. Recompile your kernel and take out NTFS read support.

NTFS support is still experimental, so handle with care.

Write support is experimental. Read support works rather well. As a matter of fact, I don't think you can enable write support anymore in any of the newer kernels.

i would suggest trying Mandrake 9.1 instead of redhat7, it detects windows, and sets up dualboot automagically. install windows first, 9.1 can even resize NTFS partitions.

To access linux partitions from windows, try explore2fs or paragon HD manager ext2fs-anywhere.

Venky.
