OS: Win2000

I have lost the partition table of my HD.
How can I scan the entire HD cluster by cluster looking for a certain string
without using external recovering tools?
Any example?

You have to use the disk BIOS services, INT 13, I believe.  Check out http://www.clipx.net/ng/peter_norton/ng76349.php

Interrupts is a "no no" in Win32 user mode. Check out http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;100027& ("INFO: Direct Drive Access Under Win32")

As the other guys said the Int 13 will provide you this service so, try this, I use this code to read the floppy disk so change the drive number to dl = 01 to read the C drive, also it will work on Win NT,

║asm{
║  mov ah,0x00         //RESET DISK
║  mov dl,0x00         //drive number
║  int 0x13
║  mov ah,0x02         //Interrupt code
║  mov al,psec         //Number of sectors to read
║  mov ch,cyl          //cylinder number 0-1023
║  mov cl,sec          //sector number 1-17
║  mov dh,head         //head number   0-1
║  mov dl,0x00         //drive number
║  push bx
║  push es
║  mov bx,ds
║  mov es,bx
║  mov bx,pdata
║  int 0x13
║  pop es
║  pop bx
║ }

No. This will not work on Win32. Besides, that is 16bit assembler...

Sorry, didn't see the OS listed.

My bad...

Haven't done this type of stuff much, but seem to recall you can use VWIN32_DIOC_DOS_INT13 through DeviceIoControl - or is that not for Win2000?

IIRC, 'VWIN32*' control codes are for .vxd's - and that is Win9x...

Nothing has happened on this question in more than 9 months. It's time for cleanup!

My recommendation, which I will post in the Cleanup topic area, is to
PAQ, refund points (possibly interesting answers for other contexts).
