hi JTWolfman,

the first thing you need to do is to find pure-ftpd daemon.

[user@localhost user]# whereis pure-ftpd

on my linux box it is located in /usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd.

before you run the daemon check out the pure-ftpd configuration file for your needs.

and run the daemon.

[user@localhost user]# /usr/local/sbin/pure-ftpd &

for testing,

[user@localhost user]# ftp localhost

***you should get such messages***
Connected to localhost (
220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd 1.0.14 ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 17:39 and the load is 0.45. Server port: 21.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Good Luck.

To be able to find anything in Linux there is the locate command, but you need to have built the locate database to be able to use it. run this command as root:-

> updatedb

It will run for a while, so you may prefer to run it in the background:-

> updatedb &

Once this has run and completed, you should be able to locate any file by a portion of its name, this can produce a lot of output so pipe it thru a pager:-

> locate ftp | less

Hope that helps.
