hi,
I am a new user of tomcat. I am running Tomcat 4.0.5 with apache in linux O.S. My tomcat path points to /usr/tomcat405/webapps/ROOT. I mean this is the place where the index.html exists whose contents are shown when I give my Ip address on the browser.
My problem is I have to run a program called search.html existing in a directory elsewhere. If i give the full path towards that in browser it is looking in /usr/tomcat405/webapps/examples/jsp/myname followed by the pathname for search.html. myname is the directory where are all my jsp files are existing.
search.html is for calling a cgi program htsearch. Both search.html and htsearch exist in /usr/tomcat405/webapps/ROOT/htdig/cgi-bin and they have to reside there only for working.
So my basic doubt is how to give a url with full path which is not getting confused with tomcat settings? Help will b deeply appreciated.
thanks
prem

First of all don't use the ROOT context path.
Create a seperate contextpath. You can either use the admin tool or edit the server.xml or even place a folder in the tomcat webapps folder containing a WEB-INF folder inturn containing one web.xml file.

eg:  if ur webapplication folder is   myweb then the hierarchy will be

webapps
  |
|||

myweb
 |
 |---search.jsp
 |
 |---WEB-INF
       |
       |---web.xml
