Recover Deleted Folder

A software that is run from our computers does not upgrade but has to be removed and reinstalled each time.  There is a folder called "Data" that holds the users information until the computer is syncronized with the servers.  Due to a down server the users were unable to sync their Data folders.  Not knowing the issue a person went to upgrade the system to find out later the folder had been replaced with an empty one.  Does anyone know if the system stores a copy of the old folder?  Our systems do not run Recovery Console... that was my first step.
Thank you in advance for any information you can offer.
