I want to send personalised mails to a set of people. This list is in a spreadsheet. With two Columns: "email id" "Name"

How do I do a mail merge from Notes so that each addressee sees only their email id and addressed to that person?

You could put all the email addresses in to the BCC field, then everybody would see the mail as addressed to themselves only.

Or you could write an agent to send the same mail to each recipient sequentially (one after another).

If you want the mail to go with a header (or maybe subject) which says "Dear John Doe:" you should program something in lotus script maybe and run it with an agent.
As I don't like lotusScript and had to conect to an SQL Db instead of an Excel spreadsheet, I did a small app in VB6 (you may use VBA or VB.NET) which composes and sends each mail (with the person's name in the header) one by one.

I think this can also be done easily with LotusScript. I don't know how to view the data from an excel spreasheet but you could easily import that data into a notes view and then acces the data from the notes view instead of your excel file.

To conect VB to notes you need to use Lotus Notes Automation Classes. Search in google: LotusScript for Visual Basic Programmers PDF. This will also help you with LotusScript.
